Zoiks! the magazine hits the Internet with style and flash.
New humor and entertainment magazine to launch online Sept. 1, 2004. Celebrity interviews, columns, reviews and cartoons.
DAVENPORT, IA August 18, 2004 -- Zoiks!, a new Internet magazine published by Jason Tanamor, award-winning writer and humor columnist, will hit the Web on Sept. 1, 2004. It will feature humor columns and entertainment articles from nationally syndicated columnists such as Linda Sharp and Melvin Durai. Other contributors to the magazine include Mark McLaughlin, 2003 Stoker Award-winner and author of Hell Is Where The Heart Is; Sean Leary, publisher of The Dingo; and Daniel Ravner, writer and director of the new movie, The Art of Picking Up Girls, currently playing on the Independent Film Channel. The web address for the magazine will be http://zoiks.tanamor.com.
Influenced by People, Interview and a bit of Mad Magazine, Zoiks! will not disappoint readers of pop culture and well-crafted comedy. There will be a strong mix of humor and entertainment, commented Tanamor, creator of Zoiks! magazine. Included will be regular columns, the latest DVD reviews, some cartoons, and profile stories and interviews with people in entertainment. 'Best Of' print editions of the magazine are also part of my future plans for Zoiks! The debut issue will feature Bill Fitzhugh, best-selling author of Pest Control and Heart Seizure; a profile on Maria Bamford, a veteran comedian who has worked with Dennis Miller; and future issues will contain interviews and stories with Tom Papa, star of the new NBC show, Come to Papa; Harry Shearer, voice from the Simpsons; Paul Tarantino, writer and director of the movie, Courting Courtney; and Mitch Fatel, regular correspondent to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Jason Tanamor has won honors for his short screenplay, In My Dreams, and has been praised and supported by industry professionals. Tanamors humor has the appeal of Saturday Night Lives Deep Thoughts. Its not just offbeat - its an entirely different time signature. Giving rise to plenty of double-takes and raised eyebrows, the writing is simple and uproariously funny. The result will leave readers in stitches, said Jenna Glatzer, author and Editor-in-Chief of Absolute Write.
Zoiks! will launch on Sept. 1, 2004, and the first issue will run for one month. Starting on Oct. 1, there will be new issues online on the first and 15th of each month. "The Iowa/Illinois Quad-Cities have been gaining prominence for innovative literary endeavors in recent years,"
said contributor Mark McLaughlin. "Recent advances include the opening of the Midwest Writing Center and the premiere of The Dingo, a print humor anthology. The Internet format of this new publication displays yet another form of bold innovation, and I look forward to taking part in it and watching it grow."
